Included are both group and individual portraits of staff, physicians, and patients; pictures of infirmary events, exhibitions, equipment, practices, and procedures; general views of the Boston medical area; exterior views of specific buildings, including construction scenes; interior views of clinics, operating rooms, wards, and laboratories. Videotaped interviews of ophthalmologists David G. Cogan and Paul Chandler are also part of the collection.

The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary is an independent, voluntary, non-profit hospital that specializes in the treatment of diseases affecting the eye, ear, nose, and throat. It is the second oldest eye and ear hospital in continuous operation in the United States.
